A Pilot Study on the Status of Mental Health in Marriage Immigrants Women in Hanam City

Abstract

|
Objectives : This study was purposed to examine the mental health in international marriage immigrants and it¡¯s relating factors.
Methods : 76 immigrant women (41 Vietnamese, 35 Chinese) and 41 Korean women were enrolled in this study. Participants were administered Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Scale for Suicide Ideation, Acculturative Stress Scale for International Student, Family Inventory of Life Events and changes to examine mental health.
Results : Immigrant women had more family members feel more depressed. And lack of understanding about cultural differences is related to feel depressed. Anxiety has more connection with external stress factors more than demographic differences. Suicidal intention also has more relation with emotional unstabilitiy than demographic factors. Especially life stress seems to aggravate suicidal idea.
Conclusion : This study suggest that factors related immigrant women¡¯s mental health is not only adaptational problem, but also external stress factors.
